There’s nothing wrong with a ‘smashed avocado on toast plus unlimited bubbly’ brunch but you’ve been there and got the T-shirt. Where next for your weekend brunch fix?
If you’re looking for something extra to accompany your eggs Benedict and mimosa, the City is buzzing with brunch spots with a twist. From sky-high views to bingo – these brunches will add more than fizz to a leisurely weekend.
Brunch with a view
It won’t just be the prosecco leaving you on a high – in the City you can enjoy brunch with a side helping of panoramic view. Perched on the 40th floor at Duck & Waffle, you can bask in one of the capital’s highest vistas and really take your time (weekend brunch is served from 6am to 4.30pm). The menu will delight lovers of rich, hearty fare – try the Victorian sausages, Angus beef tartare with Marmite egg yolk, and, of course, the signature duck and waffle (yes, it really is a dish).
If the night before has left you needing a little fresh air, the roof terrace at Wagtail is the perfect brunch location, serving up a seasonal, sustainable menu with eye-popping views of The Shard and St Paul’s Cathedral.
For an even more Instagram-friendly location, try the weekend botanical brunch at 14 Hills. Snap your artfully positioned smoked salmon under the foliage-festooned interior, with the unmistakable sight of Tower Bridge in the background.
Musical brunch
Many City brunches feature DJs but The Anthologist is upping the ante with Fat Tony’s Full Fat Brunch on selected Saturdays. With live sets from the legendary DJ Fat Tony and guests, this is a high-octane setting for your waffles and Bloody Marys.
But The Anthologist doesn’t stop there. On selected Sundays, weary minds will be rejuvenated with the Gospel Motown Brunch – featuring the uplifting Rowe Talent Collective Gospel Choir, you can sing along to Stevie Wonder and Beyonce as you chow down on brunch favourites. And praise be for the healthy vegan and zero booze options, should your mellow Sunday require it.
Bingo brunch
It’s eyes down for a full house (and full belly) at Dabbers Social Bingo City every Saturday. This is not bingo as you know it: the vibe is resolutely ‘party’ with sassy hosts, crazy calls and popping prizes to be won. Tickets to Dabbers Brunch Club include your bingo book and dabbers, a brunch dish, boozy jelly shot and 90 minutes of bottomless bubbly (hic!).
Crazy golf brunch
Because everybody needs to watch their friend attempt to get a golf ball into a miniature windmill after too many glasses of prosecco. Book The Sunday Set bottomless brunch at Swingers City and you can be teeing off with 90 minutes of moreish street food, crazy golf and unlimited drinks (tequila features heavily). Do not be surprised if the brunch ends with you on 102 over par.
Around-the-world brunch
Brunch favourites already include the likes of French toast and Belgian waffles, but if you’re hankering after a real global feast the City’s international chefs are creating brunch menus to satisfy far-flung tastes.
On Saturdays, M Threadneedle Street serves up 90 minutes of free-flowing drinks alongside the globally-inspired menu including brunch favourites from Australia, South Africa, America and Japan. It could be a tough choice between breakfast ramen, corn and zucchini fritters or the short rib hash.
If Mediterranean flavours are more your style, what could be better than a tapas brunch with unlimited cava? At Jose Pizzaro in Broadgate Circle, the Saturday Bottomless Brunch is an Iberian delight – nibble ham croquettes and patatas al horno, wash it down with bottomless sangria, and pretend it’s not just the weekend but you’re actually on holiday.
