5 family-friendly activities to enjoy in the City of London during the Easter Holidays

Although February half-term feels like it was just last week, it is already time to start looking at how you are going to entertain the little ones over the Easter Holidays! Here are a few ideas for family friendly fun to keep you and the kids entertained over the holidays in the City of London.

1. Join a free Instrumental Intrigue Workshop on 2 April and 9 April

London Mithraeum Bloomberg SPACE and multi-instrumentalist, composer and author, Dan Mayfield are welcoming visitors on a voyage through the science of sound and the different ways that sound can be used.

Inspired by the fantastical instruments in their new installation by Leo Robinson, DREAM-BRIDGE-OMNIGLYPH, you will be invited to explore objects that make music now and in the past.

  • These workshops are fun for everyone, but they recommend participation from age 3+.

2. A free egg hunt is happening across Aldgate from 18 March – 1 April

From 18 March head down to Aldgate Square where you can take part in a fantastically fun egg hunt and crack hidden clues to win free treats.

From the starting point at Aldgate Tap you will follow nine clues hidden in business windows across the trail. Once you have cracked all of the clues and completed the trail you will be able to collect your free treat!

Ally the Aldgate Bunny, will also be back this year. Keep an eye out for Ally and stop him for a photo as he hops around Aldgate.

  • The Egg Hunt takes about 30-40 minutes to complete, so it’s the perfect family friendly day out.

3. Take part in the Great Leadenhall Goose Chase from 1 April – 30 April

Leadenhall Market’s popular Great Goose Chase is back this Easter, with a series of "eggstraordinary" challenges in and around the Victorian market, giving participants the chance to win Old Tom’s trophy (named for the legendary Market gander) and £500 to spend in Leadenhall Market’s boutique shops and restaurants.

The annual event returns to the Market for the month of April with brand new tasks, which range from performing a song on the Market’s famous cobbled lanes, locating specific items in shops, to recreating the famous Harry Potter scene that was filmed in the Market.

  • Free to enter, the Great Goose Chase is open to all ages.

4. Immerse yourself in the world of The Gunpowder Plot

In this immersive experience you will join Guy Fawkes, and his co-conspirators as they plot to assassinate King James I. Using a combination of live actors and a digital cast, starring Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter) as Guy Fawkes, you don't just witness history, you are part of it.

To make the experience even sweeter for Easter, they have special treats to indulge in this month including Mini Egg sundaes and for the adults "Mini Eggs-plosion" cocktails.

  • Crafts and trails are free with no booking required, just drop in. The activity will be on from 10am - 5pm (last entry 4.30pm).
