Terms and Conditions for Competitions

These competition terms and conditions (Terms) apply to all competitions promoted by The City of London Corporation (“the City Corporation”) via @thecityofldn Instagram and @visitthecity Facebook channels.

Please read these Terms carefully. By submitting a competition entry, you are agreeing to be bound by these Terms.

If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not enter the competition.

1. The Competition

1.1 The competition will run from 00:01 on the date specified on the competition post to 11:59 on the date specified on the competition post (the “Closing Date”) inclusive.

1.2 All competition entries must be received by the City Corporation by no later than 11:59 on the Closing Date. All competition entries received after the Closing Date are automatically disqualified.

1.3 You can enter the competition in the ways described on the competition post and the winner(s) will be selected in the manner described on the competition post.

1.4 No purchase is necessary and there is no charge to enter the competition.

1.5 In the event of a conflict between these Terms and the Website Terms, these Terms shall prevail.

2. Eligibility

2.1 The competition is only open to any person aged 18 years or over, except:

  • 2.1.1 - employees of the City Corporation;
  • 2.1.2 - employees of agents or suppliers of the City Corporation who are professionally connected with the competition or its administration; or
  • 2.1.3 - members of the immediate families or households of (a) and (b) above.

2.2 There is a limit of one entry per person. Entries on behalf of another person will not be accepted and joint submissions are not allowed. If a comment is required to be eligible for the prize, the winner to be contacted will be the person leaving the comment, not the person tagged in the comment.

2.3 In entering the competition, you confirm that you are eligible to do so and eligible to claim any prize(s) you may win. The City Corporation may require you to provide proof that you are eligible to enter the competition.

2.4 In entering the competition you also confirm that you are not infringing on any intellectual property rights of a third party and that any information contained in your entry is not confidential, proprietary or business sensitive information.

2.5 The City Corporation will not accept competition entries that are:

  • 2.5.1 - automatically generated by computer;
  • 2.5.2 - illegible, have been altered, reconstructed, forged or tampered with;
  • 2.5.3 - completed by third parties or in bulk;
  • 2.5.4 - photocopies and not originals; or
  • 2.5.5 - incomplete.

2.6 The City Corporation reserves all rights to disqualify you if your conduct is contrary to the spirit or intention of the prize competition.

2.7 Competition entries cannot be returned.

3. The Prize(s)

3.1 The prize(s) are supplied by the supplier(s) identified on the competition post (if any) and are also subject to any terms and conditions of the supplier(s) specified on the competition post.

3.2 The City Corporation reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to replace the prize(s) with an alternative prize(s) of equal or higher value if circumstances beyond the City Corporation’s and/or a supplier’s control makes it necessary to do so.

3.3 Unless otherwise stated on the competition post, the prize(s) do not include accommodation, upgrades, travel insurance, medical insurance, the cost of transfers to and from airports or stations, food and drink, spending money, car parking charges, lounge access, excess baggage, excursions, attractions, the cost of any visa or travel document, tax or personal expenses. Any other costs incurred in addition to those set out above and that are incidental to the fulfilment of the prize(s) are the responsibility of the winner(s).

3.4 You will be responsible for ensuring that if the prize(s) involve travel you and any person travelling with you are available to travel and hold valid passports and any necessary visas and travel documents. The City Corporation does not accept responsibility if you are denied a travel document or refused entry for any reason.

3.5 Prize(s) are subject to availability. There is no cash alternative for the prize(s).

3.6 The prize(s) are not negotiable or transferable.

3.7 In order to claim the prize(s) you must follow the instructions set out on the competition post.

3.8 The prize(s) may not be used in conjunction with any other promotion offered by the supplier of the prize(s) or any third party.

3.9 The prize(s) may not be claimed by a third party on your behalf.

3.10 The City Corporation does not accept any responsibility if you are not able to take up the prize(s) for any reason.

3.11 The prize(s) may not be the subject of any claim of any nature whatsoever by the winner(s).

3.12 The total value indicated for the prize(s) (if any) set out on the competition post is only given by way of a guide and is subject to change. It is the equivalent of the retail price including VAT of the goods and/or services offered or estimated as on the opening date of the competition.

4. Winner Announcement

4.1 The winner(s) of the competition will be announced in the manner set out on the competition post.

4.2 The decision of the City Corporation, or the judges nominated by the City Corporation (if applicable), is final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.

4.3 The City Corporation will contact the winner(s) personally through Instagram, Facebook, by email and/or by telephone as soon as practicable after the Closing Date, using the email address and/or telephone number provided with the competition entry. The City Corporation will not amend any contact information once the competition entry form has been submitted. If the winner(s), once contacted through Instagram, Facebook, by email and/or by telephone, fails to respond within a period of 7 days following the date on which the email is sent or telephone contact was made notifying him or her of the prize(s) the prize(s) will be relinquished and the City Corporation reserves the right to offer the prize(s) to the next eligible winner(s) selected from the correct entries that were received before the Closing Date.

5. Limitation of Liability

Insofar as is permitted by law, the City Corporation, its suppliers or agents will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate the winner(s) or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the prize(s) except where it is caused by the negligence of the City Corporation, its agents or suppliers or that of their employees. Your statutory rights are not affected.

6. Data Protection and Publicity

6.1 If you are the winner(s) of the competition, you agree that the City Corporation and its suppliers may use your name, town of residence, image and any social media profile to announce the winner(s) of this competition and for any other reasonable and related promotional purposes.

6.2 You further agree to participate in any reasonable publicity required by the City Corporation.

6.3 By entering the competition, you agree that any personal information provided by you with the competition entry may be held and used only by the Promoter or its agents and suppliers to administer the competition.

6.4 The City Corporation will only process your personal information as set out in its privacy policy at www.thecityofldn.com/privacy.

7. General

7.1 If there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of these Terms, the City Corporation may, at its sole discretion, reserve the right to exclude you from participating in the competition.

7.2 The City Corporation reserves the right to hold void, suspend, cancel, or amend the prize competition where it becomes necessary to do so.

7.3 These Terms are governed by English law and you can bring legal proceedings in respect of the Terms in the English courts. If you live in Scotland you can bring legal proceedings in respect of the Terms in either the Scottish or the English courts. If you live in Northern Ireland you can bring legal proceedings in respect of the Terms in either the Northern Irish or the English courts.
